A couple thoughts on The Fifth Season (and a technical test to boot).

This was the first book I finished in 2026, which feels very appropriate. It starts with the end of the world, and from a news perspective in the United States, that’s also how things have felt here. 2026 began with Maduro’s capture and accelerated with the occupation of Minneapolis and the latest release of the Epstein Files. This book shows how people survive the harshest, most unpredictable conditions (the concept of ‘stonelore’ within the book) and amidst deep systemic injustices.
